Food Options at HCHS

There has been a common complaint lately about how Kosher Food is not served at lunch at HCHS. This is an issue because the religion of Judaism has certain restrictions on what they are allowed to eat and HCHS does not provide many foods that follow those restrictions, not providing these kids with a nice lunch. However, there are many options and recipes that can help this situation. First, let's go over the rules. Kosher food includes all food products that conform to Jewish Law. This includes no mix of dairy and meat, no pork/pork products, and no shellfish. However, the main issue lies in the rules of the meat. Jewish ritual states that the meat eaten must be slaughtered. Jews also cannot eat meat that comes from any animal that does not both chew its cud and has a split hoof. Some of these animals include pigs, horses, dogs/cats, and rabbi/hare. These rules give us some ideas of options that can help, however I believe that the best, most effective way to solve this problem is by making sure that at least some meat comes from these animals. Maybe their could be two parts to the cafeteria or two options of the school lunch each day, one that follows the Judaism restrictions and one that doesn't. Some side dishes could include unleavened bread or apples dipped in honey since they are eaten during Jewish holidays, Passover and the Jewish New Year. I believe that making these and possibly more changes could truly solve this issue and make sure that every kid at HCHS has a nice and healthy meal during their school day.
