Food complains in HCHS

Food complains in HCHS

There is a major issue in one of Illinois's best high schools Hinsdale Central High School. That being Islam students are having complains about the food the school is offering, especially certain types of meat. According to this website, the religion of Islam, not eating forbidden food is important because it is considered not lawful, such as pork products and animals that was dead before slaughtering. Why is there a issue here? You might ask. The issue is when the school offers a meal to the students, they usually don't tell the students what is the form of meat, causing many Islam students consuming the forbidden foods in their culture.

There are many solutions to this problem. One of them being simply listing the ingredients of the meal on a menu besides the food. Also the Quest food service, which is the food provider for Hinsdale Central High School should tell or make the workers read a short guideline of other religions forbidden food, such as this website. The simple solution could be providing more beef and chicken etc.

Another issue in public school about food is when there is a holiday that involves eating forbidden food, such as Thanksgiving where some schools offers special meals but only in one kind of food. For example, during Thanksgiving, some schools offer a delicious course of mashed potatoes, turkeys, etc. The Islam students will be left out cause their religion does not allow them to eat those foods. As a solution, the school could offer them the same course but with different kind of meats, even a Halal turkey, which is a kind of turkey specially made for the Islam religion. These are some simple yet effective ways to prevent the issue from above.
